3 week old pups

Picture
the pups were born 6-15-10. The vet who x-rayed mommy 3 weeks before her pups were born,  told me he was confident she would have 5 maybe 6 pups. Labor started at 10:30 pm and many hours later after number nine was born with more on the way we settled in for a big job ahead. Pups were responsive and active right away, and all were black. We were surprised!  By 10:30 am all 12 pups were accounted for and tired mama settled in to nurse her babes contentedly. The pups ranged in size from 6.8 oz. to 13 oz. At three weeks the pups have grown to a robust 3 to 5 pounds. They sleep a lot but are beginning to explore and interact with eachother.

12 puppies is a lot of work. Poor mama.

Sassy and chubby the puppies have grown a lot. They now average 7.5 pounds. They are very playful, very expressive, even loud and incredibly sweet. They love to be with people yet are very playful and affectionate with the other pups mama and dad as well. They have had their first shots first baths and have had their nails cut many times . They have been brushed to their delight and walked on a leash, not to their delight but they are learning. They get exercise outdoors at least twice a day and they still sleep a lot. They have learned where in the puppy crate they play and sleep and where they eliminate. They are learning to come when called....slowly. Every day is a new learning experience  for each little unique baby.
